DIY Dresser Makeover

DIY Dresser Makeover

This is a project that I am sooo proud of. Mostly because it actually turned out the way I pictured it in my head! That doesn’t always happen. Sometimes my “visions” let me down. Not this time baby!

In the 4 years my husband and I have been married, we’ve never owned/shared a dresser together. He had an old single dresser he brought into the marriage but it only housed his things and I ended up repurposing it for our triplets…you can see that here.I’ve long dreamed of finding an old wide dresser with character to repurpose. Old is the new “new” right? At least I think so. I would MUCH rather buy something old & used and give it my own special touch than buy something new and mass produced. That doesn’t mean I never do…but when there’s an option I take it!

After searching for months online for a used dresser at a decent price, I gave up. I sent the hubby to the DI (thrift store) to check it out…honestly thinking it would take multiple trips before we found anything. He found this gem on the first try! $50. I told him to snatch it right away!

It’s a little hard to see the detail of the distressing up close but that’s my favorite part. It looks so worn and vintage in person. I am seriously in love. It’s my new favorite piece of furniture for sure. Sometimes I get busted just sitting on my bed staring at it. Yeah, I’m weird and I don’t care who knows it.

We gave it a heavy sanding
Painted the top in Valspar paint + primerĀ in Dark Kettle Black
Spray painted the hardware
Spread a little of the black paint on the edges and corners that I wanted to distress
Painted the rest in an antique white
Distressed the corners and edges with sand paper until it looked just right.

The lighting in my bedroom is so difficult to work with! It seems like no matter what time of day it is I just can’t get it right. So I apologize for the gnarly pic.
