It really is the most wonderful time of the year. Our home is officially decorated in all the best Christmas trimmings and magic is all around us! And in honor of it being December 1st, today I’m sharing one of my latest projects with you. My knockoff Burlap Advent Calendar Bags!
I was inspired by this darling set from The Land of Nod. I knew it would be a simple project, and when it comes to Christmas, isn’t everything better homemade?!
I picked out a few yards of Gold Painted Burlap for that extra holiday glisten and cut 25 strips in measurements of 5×10 inches.
Then, I folded down the short ends and sewed a small hem.
Next, I folded the strips in half with right sides facing together and went down both sides with a tight zigzag stitch.
Turn them inside out and iron flat
Then I hot glued some precut red felt numbers that I purchased from a darling Etsy shop called Ella and Harry.
Last, I added my favorite Holiday Washi tape to some clothes pins to add some extra Christmas punch! I got my washi tape from The Ribbon Retreat, one of my FAVORITE places! It’s not enough that they have the best selection of ribbon, but did you even know they had so much washi tape??!! Squeals!!
And now the BEST part..what do we fill it with!!?? I like to avoid overwhelming, especially during the busy season. In years past I rolled up Scripture verses about the birth of Jesus Christ, but we spend the week leading up to Christmas doing that now AND once a week on family night we use the darling Nativity book by Emily Freeman called “A Christ-Centered Christmas”. Sooo, we are using our advent to come up with family & service related simple activities. I combined free printable ideas I found on 2 different sites because they both had ideas we like that include traditions we already do! You can find the links below! And of course you can’t forget a little candy treat for each child in the bags. I usually do something simple like Hershey’s kisses or Hugs!
This is one of 3 printable pages from Monograms ‘n Mud.
This is one of 2 pages from Wendolonia.
And there you have it! I hope you enjoyed this post and take advantage of this time to enjoy special traditions with your family!
